Teen Camp

Confidence is Cool

Disabled Sailing & Recreational Camp Confidence is Cool day camp is a recreational program offered to physically disabled children, ages 7-17, and is designed to fill a void in summer programming available for children with physical disabilities. The participants have different levels of ability and come from all over New England with one goal in mind – to have fun!

Confidence Is Cool operates with an overall goal of providing participating children and teens with a supportive environment that allows them to build confidence and self-esteem. Hosted at our facilities in Fort Adams State Park, Newport, Rhode Island, the Confidence is Cool participants enjoy two days of sailing as a highlight of their camp experience. Those with no sailing experience are welcome. Activities on other days include swimming, kite flying, adaptive (wheelchair) sports, arts and crafts, and field trips to museums, the beach, aquarium and zoo. All activities are designed to meet the needs and abilities of the children. The program will push boundaries, promote new friendships, encourage mentorship, build confidence, and emphasize fun!

Confidence is Cool is administered in a series of three one-week sessions. (Please see the Calendar for this year’s camp dates.) Each camp session is Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children may attend more than one week of Confidence is Cool, depending upon space availability.

The Confidence is Cool staff offers a wide range of resources and capabilities. When possible, we include staff members and/or volunteers who have disabilities as well, which provides a very unique mentoring opportunity for the children. A licensed nurse is able to meet any medical needs. Counselors and volunteers are energetic and thoughtful and form special friendships with the children, while providing them with care that meets their individual needs.

Registration and Cost: The program can accommodate up to 15 campers per weekly session. Tuition is $150 per week. Full and partial scholarships are available, based on need – please inquire.
